Duration: 3 full days
Minimum of 6 people and maximum of 20
This 3-day workshop will focus on important risk modeling principles and methods applied to translational research in drug development, while guiding participants through the main steps of building risk analysis models.
Module 1 (Day 1) of this 3-day workshop, will provide participants with a an introduction to risk analysis and Monte Carlo simulation. Participants will be introduced to distributions in modeling, visualization of probabilities, and a refresher in stochastic process.
In Module 2 (Day 2 & 3), participants will concentrate on fitting distributions, modeling uncertainty, sensitivity analysis, and example applications in early drug development.
The workshop will be held at Research Triangle in NC.
Participants will receive a USB drive with all lecture notes and model files produced for the course. Participants will also have access to a web-drive where they will be able to retrieve course exercise files simultaneously as the instructor develops them during the class.
The course runs from 09:00 to 17:00 each day, but registrations on the first day begin at 8:30am. Morning and afternoon coffee and lunch are provided. A social event will be provided at the beginning of the course. The course will be delivered in English.
The course is suitable to statisticians, pharma scientists, PK/PD modelers, Outcomes Research specialists, and any professional interested in the application of risk analysis methods to translational research in drug development.
The course is designed to encourage the modeler to develop problem solving skills through a variety of exercises and case studies, and will be useful for analysts interested in an introduction to risk assessment, as well as for those with some risk modeling experience and wanting to further deepen these skills.
Participants are required to bring laptops loaded with R, and a pdf reader. R is an open-source freeware that works for Windows, Mac, or Linux and can be downloaded free of charge from the R Project website. As R is updated constantly, please download the latest version before attending the course. Also, it is recommended that participants use a code editor to facilitate the writing and storage of code: we recommend Tinn-R for Windows users, and RStudio for Mac users.
Prior experience using R or other simulation tools is not required.
ModelAssist is a comprehensive risk analysis training reference and is free of cost. This reference tool provides an in-depth explanation of all of the risk analysis concepts, techniques and methods introduced in this course and greatly complements the course material. ModelAssist can be downloaded or accessed directly online from our website.
All our courses aim to help the participants understand risk analysis and develop practical skills in setting up risk assessment models. We believe that this is best achieved through a relaxed, informal and interactive environment, using plenty of examples and hands-on exercises where students apply and adapt what they have learned. We have also updated our courses to include more case studies, allowing participants to see how the different risk assessment modeling techniques are applied as part of a risk analysis.
An added value of participating in our training courses is the opportunity to develop or extend the network of professional contacts when working with other course participants. This is an intensive course, and we'll need a break from time to time. We therefore arrange an optional fun, interactive social event at the beginning of the course, included in the course fee. This provides an excellent opportunity to relax, have some fun, establish some contacts, and sample some of the local culture.
Course participants must arrange their own accommodation. However, we will be happy to provide information and alternatives for your travel arrangements. After you complete your registration form, please let us know that you will need our help.
Please contact us to obtain a code for the discounts below, or to discuss a special rate when registering 5 or more people. Discounts for groups of 3 or 4 people are applied automatically at registration. Discount rates cannot be combined.
