10-year Anniversary

Ten years ago, EpiX Analytics opened its doors in a small office in Princeton, New Jersey. Back then the partners figured - through our risk analysis know-how and tools - that there was about a 75% probability that the company would make it to its ten year anniversary. Well, here we are, ten years later with a new name, a new and spacious office in Boulder, Colorado, and a strong and focused team that continues to use its analytical expertise to help private and public organizations worldwide make better decisions in the presence of uncertainty. What we hadn’t anticipated ten years ago was the wide breadth of organiza-tions that would come to us for help identifying and quantifying their risks and uncertainties – from pharmaceuticals, food safety and animal health to finance, insurance, manufactur-ing, construction and oil & gas. We’ve had the pleasure to work together with over a hun-dred companies and public organizations and taught courses in risk analysis on six conti-nents to over a thousand participants. It is a testament to all of us – companies, govern-ments and individuals alike – that we can all benefit from better understanding our risks. We thank all of our clients we’ve had over the years for giving us the opportunity to work with you and we look forward to continuing the journey for many years to come!

Highlights of Two Upcoming Classes

Quantitative Risk Analysis

  • What probability distributions to use?
  • How do I start with building a simulation model?
  • How to best present and interpret the results?
  • Common modeling mistakes and how to avoid them.

These, as well as many more topics, are discussed in our upcoming Quantitative Risk Analysis class in Boulder, CO (November 6 – 8, 2013). There are still places left and if you sign up for the course by October 18th, we will be able to offer the 10% early-registration discount.

Also, in order to make the QRA courses even more effective, interesting and relevant, we’re reaching out to all course participants with a questionnaire to better understand your needs and objectives for taking the class and for participants to share example cases, data or models to be discussed during the class. In other words, while it is an open class, this course is actually customized to the participants’ needs!

Postgraduate Certificate in Risk Analysis in Health and Food Safety

Registration for the Postgraduate Certificate in Risk Analysis in Health and Food Safety, starting spring 2014, is open! This course taught by EpiX Analytics together with the Veterinary Epidemiology, Economics & Public Health (VEEPH) group of the RVC will be the first academic certificate in risk analysis in health and food safety, and will be awarded by the prestigious University of London.

The course is aimed at providing the skills for cutting-edge and in-depth quantitative risk analysis practice, and candidates will learn from the extensive teaching, consulting and research experience in risk analysis of both EpiX and the VEEPH group.

The certificate is designed for professionals from research institutions, governmental and international agencies; agricultural, food, pharmaceutical and related industries; and academic staff and post graduate students. The course accommodates the work schedules of candidates and gives them the opportunity to develop hands-on work skills and tailor their studies to their profes-sional development needs. Domains of application of the taught risk analysis skills are various and include – but are not restricted to – epidemiology, human health, public health and animal health surveillance, international trade, antimicrobial resistance, biologi-cal (e.g. vaccine) and/or pharmaceutical development, food safety, wildlife management, or plant health.

A couple of logistical details:

  • The course only requires a 2-week classroom attendance for Module 1 and again for Module 2.The remainder of the course is handled remotely to accommodate professionals with a busy work schedule.
  • If you have significant risk analysis experience and/or training, there is a possibility for you to be exempted from taking Module 1 of the PGCert. The discount for exemption from Module 1 would be $1,200 GBP off the course cost of 7,000 GBP. In this case, you will be expected to provide details regarding your experience and/or training, and you will be re-quired to take and pass the test for Module 1, which can be taken remotely at any time.

For more details, please visit the Postgraduate certificate webpage or contact Barbara O’Neill . The course will start in March 2014. Don’t wait with registration!
