This course is designed for those people who already have some experience in risk analysis modeling a Monte Carlo simulation package for Excel such as @Risk or Crystal Ball, but wish to extend that knowledge.
The course provides an in-depth explanation of various concepts and techniques necessary for superior level risk assessments. Prior knowledge of the material covered in the Quantitative Risk Analysis course or equivalent, together with significant experience in risk modeling, will be needed.
The course is designed to encourage the modeler to develop creative problem solving skills to ensure that their analyses are decision-focused, accurately, efficient and the results presented in a manner that provides decision makers with the clearest and most helpful input.
The course runs from 09:00 to 17:00 each day. Morning and afternoon coffee, and lunch are provided. Optional evening workshops on the first and second days allow extra time for running through example models and exercises.
The course is tailored to the needs of people in business, science and government who apply risk analysis to their work and wish to extend their capabilities. Participants intending to take this course should have already taken a course such as the Quantitative Risk Analysis course or possess the equivalent knowledge.
Participants will be primarily using @Risk (version 5.0 or newer) or alternatively CrystalBall (v 7.0 or newer) with Microsoft Excel to solve the exercises. However, participants can also choose to use another Monte Carlo package of their choice. It is important that participants have working knowledge of Excel, and prior experience using @RISK, Crystal Ball, or other simulation tool. Trial versions of @Risk can be found from Palisade's website here and trials of Crystal Ball can be downloaded from Oracle's website. As the trial licenses last 15 days, participants should install it only a few days before the course. In addition to @Risk/CB and MS Excel, participants are required to bring laptops with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint installed.
Participants very proficient in the R statistical language can develop the exercises using this platform. The instructor will help them solve their problems, but the solutions to group problems will be shown in Excel and @Risk.
ModelAssist is a comprehensive risk analysis training reference and is free of cost. This reference tool provides an in-depth explanation of all of the risk analysis concepts, techniques and methods introduced in this course and greatly complements the course material. ModelAssist can be downloaded or accessed directly from our website.
All of our courses aim to help the participants understand risk analysis from the bottom-up, which is achieved through a relaxed, informal and interactive environment, using plenty of examples and hands-on exercises where students apply and adapt what they have learned.
