Drug effectiveness and side effects

When evaluating a drug’s effectiveness and side effects, typically results from clinical trials are used that compare the effects of the drug against a placebo or one or more alternative drugs. One of the challenges with this is that typically a few or numerous clinical studies are available, each with different or sometimes even conflicting results.
EpiX Analytics has helped a number of pharmaceutical firms in evaluating effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and side-effects of select drugs. Monte Carlo simulation, Markov Chain Monte Carlo and meta-analytical techniques were used in different studies, all of which were presented at scientific conferences or published in peer-reviewed journals.
Three examples of these drug effectiveness and adverse event studies performed by EpiX Analytics include:
- Meta-analysis of adverse events in recent randomized clinical trials for dimethil fumarate, glatiramer acetate and teriflunomide for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis, see http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25387069
- Indirect Comparison of Adverse Events for Early Parkinson's Disease (PD) Monotherapy Trials: Pramipexole, Ropinirole and Rasagiline, see http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22304415
;
- Treatment of advanced Parkinson's disease in the United States: a cost-utility model, see http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20818839
